Our New Website

Posted on June 3, 2010 by Ali on the topic of Design, Digital Design

Over the last six months we have been working on our own corporate stationery. Business cards, presentation documents, comp slips – they’ve all had a refresh.

Once it started going in front of clients it was important that our website had the same look and feel, so that prompted us to take a fresh look at the website entirely.

Wireframes

With our previous website, we chose to make the blog the main focus of the site. While this worked well for showcasing our most up to date work and articles, it didn’t enable us to communicate what we do as effectively as we would have liked.

The wireframing process helped us nail down what content we wanted to bring to the forefront of the website, and the hierarchy of that content.

Black Light Website

Posted on March 8, 2010 by Ali on the topic of Branding, Digital Design

Having completed the rebrand and composed a set of brand guidelines, we had the basis for a visual style for the website. Utilising this this, and our vision for how the website needed to communicate Black Light’s key messages and services, we began the research phase of the project.

The almighty H1 Tag

Posted on March 24, 2009 by Ali on the topic of Digital Design

I recently came across the H1 debate. The website addresses the issue of whether the H1 tag should be used exclusively for the company logo on a website, or if it should be used as the main title on the page.

I use the H1 tag as the primary header in the body copy. If a page design requires multiple header styles then I will use the header tags semantically. If the primary header style needs to be repeated then I will use it again. This approach appears to conform with Google software engineer Matt Cutts opinion on the matter.
